Somebody eventually has to turn “we should” into “I did.”

Collective intention is comfortable because it distributes responsibility until nobody holds any. The sentence stays in the first person plural indefinitely unless someone changes the pronoun, and that change is usually the entire difference between an idea and a thing that happened.

In the next conversation where everyone agrees something should be done, take one piece of it yourself and say so out loud. Naming yourself is what breaks the pattern.
