GRATITUDE
Orienting your life towards what does not pass changes what you spend it on. Most of what occupies a day is temporary by design, but a life made entirely of temporary things has no spine to it. Whether you understand the lasting thing in religious terms or not, the question underneath is the same: what are you living in relation to. Having an answer tends to quiet a great deal of noise.
Without settling anything metaphysical, name the thing in your life you would still care about if everything urgent disappeared. Give it an hour this week that it would not otherwise have got.
What are you living for that does not end with you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
