An interesting mind is decent company when nobody else is available. Whatever you have read, learned or thought carefully about stays with you, so the hours alone contain something to turn over rather than only silence and whatever the phone offers. People who are restless on their own are often people who have not put much in.

Put something into your head this month that you can carry: a poem worth knowing by heart, a subject you follow properly, a skill that runs in the background. Then take a walk without anything in your ears and see what is in there. The furnishing is the point.
