The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.

— Leo Tolstoy

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Neither of these looks like force, and that is the point. Patience outlasts opposition that depends on your reaction, and time dismantles positions that could not be argued down. Most conflicts are settled less by a decisive move than by which party is still there afterwards. They stay underrated because using them feels like doing nothing while you use them.

When tempted to force a resolution, ask what it looks like in six months if you simply hold your position. Sometimes the answer is that waiting costs too much. Often it is that the problem resolves once the pressure to act immediately is removed.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where is your waiting doing work that force cannot?
