The person born with a talent they are meant to use will find their greatest happiness in using it.

— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Ability that goes unused becomes a kind of pressure. There is a particular satisfaction in doing what you are actually built for, and its absence is felt as a low, hard-to-name dissatisfaction that better circumstances do not touch. None of this requires believing that everyone has one destined gift, or that finding it is easy, or that life always allows its use.

Still, notice what you do that other people find difficult and you find absorbing. That combination is the usable signal, more than what you enjoy or what you are praised for. Then find any small place to put it to work, even outside the job that pays you.
