There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.

— Friedrich Nietzsche

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Attachment is not a rational process and never has been. It ignores evidence, rearranges priorities, and makes people act against their own stated interests, which is why sensible advice about it so rarely lands. The second half is the more interesting claim: behaviour that looks irrational usually has a logic underneath, and if you can find what it is protecting or seeking, it stops being inexplicable.

When someone you know is acting in a way that makes no sense, including yourself, ask what it would make sense as a response to. The answer is often a fear or a need that has not been said out loud.
