Remembering a wrong is like carrying a burden on the mind.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Holding onto an injury keeps it in the present tense, where it goes on costing you attention long after the person who caused it has stopped thinking about you. None of that means what happened was acceptable, or that you owe anyone forgiveness. It is an observation about weight: the carrying is done by you, and it is heavy whether or not the anger is deserved.

You can set something down without declaring it fine. Notice how often it comes to mind in a week, and when it does, decide deliberately whether this is a moment you need it or one you can put it down for an hour.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which grudge have you carried longer than it was worth?
