The truest wisdom is a resolute determination.

— Napoleon Bonaparte

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Knowing the right thing and being unable to hold to it is a familiar kind of paralysis. Insight that never survives contact with hesitation does not function as wisdom in practice, whatever it looks like on paper. Firmness of purpose is being ranked above cleverness, and there is something to that: the person who decides and stays decided often does better than the person who keeps reopening the question. Whether it holds when the decision was wrong is a fair objection.

Take a decision you keep revisiting. Set a date to review it properly, and until then act as though it were settled.
