Loss is nothing else but change, and change is Natures delight.

— Marcus Aurelius

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Said to somebody in fresh grief this would land badly, and that is worth admitting before anything else. What it offers is a longer view, available later: the world’s habit of taking things away is the same habit that produced them, and nothing you have was ever exempt from motion. That does not make a loss smaller. It only sets the loss inside something larger.

If you are in the middle of it, take the part that helps and leave the rest without guilt. Later, notice what has arrived in the space, and let it count without asking it to replace anyone.
