If one does not know to which port is sailing, no wind is favorable.

— Seneca

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Luck is only recognisable as luck when you know what you are trying to do. Without a direction, an opportunity and a distraction look identical, and you will take whichever arrived most recently or shouted loudest. That is why busy people with no aim often feel unlucky; the favourable wind arrives and goes unnoticed.

None of this requires a destination for your whole life. A direction for the next year is enough to sort what turns up into useful and irrelevant. Write one sentence naming where you are heading and keep it where decisions actually get made.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Do you know what you are actually heading toward?
