A weed is no more than a flower in disguise.

— James Russell Lowell

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Whether something counts as a weed depends entirely on whether anyone wanted it there. The same plant is a pest in a lawn and a wildflower in a meadow, and the label says more about the gardener’s plan than about the plant. People and traits get classified the same way, dismissed for failing to fit an arrangement they never agreed to.

Think of a quality in yourself or someone else that you have been trying to root out. Ask where that same quality would be an asset, and whether the problem is the trait or the setting it has been planted in.
