Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.

— Leo Tolstoy

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Wanting the world to be different is easy and costs nothing, which is why so much energy pools there. Changing yourself is specific, unglamorous and immediately available, which is precisely why it gets postponed. Yet much of what people want changed is made of ordinary conduct repeated many times over, and your own conduct is the one part of it you can reach today.

Take the change you most want to see around you and find the smallest version of it you could practise this week, in how you speak, spend, or listen. It will not fix the world, but it is the part nobody else can do for you.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Have you shrunk an ambition to make failure less likely?
