Ignorant men don’t know what good they hold in their hands until they’ve flung it away.

— Sophocles

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Value often becomes legible only from the far side of losing it. While something is present it turns into background, and the mind is built to stop registering what does not change. Calling that ignorance is harsher than it deserves, since the mechanism is ordinary habituation rather than stupidity, and it happens to everybody.

Pick one thing you would be devastated to lose and have not thought about in a month. Look at it directly for a minute. Then do the small maintenance it has quietly been needing, whether that is a conversation, a repair, or an afternoon given over to it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What did you undervalue until the day it was gone?
