Some abilities are tied to one company, one tool, one era, one particular arrangement of your life. Others keep working no matter what happens around them, because they operate at the level of how things work rather than how one setup happens to be configured. Judgment, clear writing, understanding how people decide, knowing the fundamentals under a tool rather than only its buttons. These do not expire when the arrangement does.
When you consider learning something, ask whether it would still matter if your industry, your city, or your role changed next year. Aim most of your effort at the answers that survive. Learn the specific tools too, but hold them loosely and put your deeper hours into the parts that transfer.
Which of your skills would still matter if your industry shifted?
