Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact.

— William James

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Some beliefs are not only descriptions of the world but participants in it. A little trust that your days are worth the effort changes what you attempt, which changes what your days hold, so the belief feeds its own evidence. It is not a demand to feel hopeful on command, though, and when the question is heavy, nobody is to blame for finding that trust out of reach.

On an ordinary day, notice something you are holding back from until it proves itself, when only commitment could prove it, and give it a stretch of real effort. On a darker day, it is enough to let someone you trust carry that belief for you a while.
