As people are walking all the time, in the same spot, a path appears.

— John Locke

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Paths are not planned so much as worn. When enough people, or one person enough times, take the same route, the ground itself changes and the way becomes visible to others. Habits, traditions and new possibilities are made the same way, through repetition rather than decree.

Think about which paths you are wearing into your own days with small repeated choices. Some may be taking you somewhere you want to go, and some may not. If there is a new route you want, walk it again and again, even while it is barely visible.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where have your repeated days worn a path you never chose?
