Keep enough integrity that being alone with yourself never feels like punishment.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Solitude gets its character from what you have to sit with. If your conduct has been broadly honest, an empty evening is restful. If you have been cutting corners on the people who trust you or on your own commitments, the same quiet becomes something to escape, and the escaping is what fills a lot of busy lives. Integrity is partly just maintenance on your ability to be alone.
If you have been avoiding stillness, notice what you would have to think about if you stopped. Usually it is one or two specific things rather than a general sense of failure. Address one of them, and the quiet often becomes bearable again faster than you expect.
When you are alone with yourself, what feels unfinished?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
