Want more from life without needing more people beneath you.

There is a version of ambition that runs on hierarchy, where the goal is not really the thing being built but the gap it creates between you and other people. That fuel works for a while and then turns on you, because it requires an unending supply of people below you, and any equal becomes a threat. Wanting more from your life does not have to mean wanting others to have less.

Check whether your goals still make sense if nobody could be ranked by them. Would you still want it if everyone else got it too? If the answer is yes, the ambition is probably about the thing itself. If it is no, that is worth knowing before you spend years on it.
