How dreadful knowledge of the truth can be when there’s no help in the truth.

— Sophocles

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Finding out what is really going on is usually treated as a good thing, and often it is. But some truths arrive with nothing you can do about them: a diagnosis with no treatment, a betrayal already years old, a loss that cannot be reversed. Knowing then brings the weight of the fact without any of the relief of acting on it.

If you are carrying something like that, it makes sense that knowing has not helped. You are not failing to cope properly. What may help is sharing the weight with someone, since the truth itself offers no remedy but company sometimes does.
