The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.

— Plutarch

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Education that simply pours facts into people treats the mind as storage. The better aim is to spark interest strong enough that a person keeps learning on their own, long after anyone is teaching them. A lit mind feeds itself; a filled one only holds what it was given.

If you teach, parent or mentor anyone, ask whether you are handing over answers or kindling curiosity. Ask questions more often than you supply conclusions. And for yourself, look for what genuinely fascinates you, since that fascination will teach you more than any course you are made to take.
