To live well is to work well, to show a good activity.

— Thomas Aquinas

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Doing something well and living well sit closer together than the usual split between work and life suggests. The claim is about activity rather than employment: cooking, repairing, caring for somebody, making something decent out of an afternoon. A life is largely composed of what you do with your hands and hours, and doing it with care is not separate from being content.

If paid work is not where this is available to you, look for it elsewhere. Take one ordinary task today and do it properly rather than quickly. Notice what that does to the rest of the day.
