All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Treating a decision as a test rather than a commitment changes what failure means: a result instead of a verdict. Most people run very few experiments, largely because each one is loaded with identity, so a bad outcome feels like a statement about them. Lowering the stakes per attempt is what lets the number of attempts rise, and the number is what produces the good outcomes.

Set up one small trial this month with a defined end: a new routine for four weeks, a conversation you have been avoiding, a different approach at work. Decide in advance what you will look at to judge it. Then run the next one regardless of how the first went.
