Aim your fire before lighting it.

Once your force is released, it goes wherever it was pointed, and you generally cannot call it back. This is true of a message sent in anger, a resignation, a confrontation, a large commitment. The moment to think is before, and it is a short moment, which is why so many people skip it and spend much longer dealing with the consequences.

Build a small pause into anything irreversible, even just an hour. Use it to ask what you are actually trying to achieve and whether this act achieves it. Most of what people regret was released without that pause rather than decided badly.
