Never show every card simply because someone is confident they know your hand.

There is no rule requiring you to confirm or deny what someone believes about you. When another person is confident they have read you correctly, their confidence is doing work on your behalf, setting their expectations and shaping their moves. Volunteering the rest gives away something you cannot get back, usually for the brief satisfaction of being understood. Discretion is not deception; it is simply not filling in every blank.

Before explaining yourself, ask what the explanation actually achieves. If the answer is that it makes you feel better in the moment, that is worth knowing before you speak. You can always say more later; you can never say less.
