An error is the more dangerous in proportion to the degree of truth which it contains.

REFLECTION
Pure nonsense is fairly harmless because nobody is persuaded by it. What does damage is a claim that is mostly right, since the true portion carries the false portion past your defences, and by the time you have accepted the sound part you have taken the rest with it. Half-truths work precisely because they are half true.
Which makes agreement the moment to slow down rather than speed up. When something strikes you as obviously correct, separate the part you can verify from the part that came attached to it. The pieces that arrive as a package are the ones worth taking apart.
Which half-true belief cost you more than an obvious lie?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
