A workaround is useful until everyone forgets it was temporary.

REFLECTION
A temporary fix is a good thing when everyone knows it is temporary. The trouble comes later, when the people who understood it have moved on and the improvisation has quietly become the system, load bearing and undocumented. Nobody decided that. It happened by forgetting, which is how most fragile arrangements come about.
When you put in a stopgap, leave a mark on it, a note, a date, a reminder that it was meant to be replaced. Then check your surroundings for the old ones nobody flagged. There is usually at least one holding up more than it should.
