Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being able to tell good from bad is not the same as being able to make good. Taste develops faster than skill, which is why beginners so often produce work that disappoints them: the eye is already trained and the hand is not. That gap hurts, and it is also the engine, since without it nobody would improve.

If you are in that stretch, understand that your dissatisfaction signals a working eye rather than a lack of talent. Keep making things at a volume that lets the hand catch up. Judging is cheap and quick; making is the part that changes you.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Have you been admiring things instead of making any?
