Coming generations will learn equality from poverty, and love from woes.

— Khalil Gibran

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Hard conditions strip away the ranking people do when they can afford to. Money buys distance from other people, and losing it puts you in rooms where everyone is equally exposed, which no argument can teach. Grief works the same way: you learn what care is worth on the day you need it. None of that makes the hardship worth having, and nobody should be asked to be grateful.

If money is tight now, the useful part is not a lesson but the people in it alongside you. Accept help once without apologising, and give it once without making it a favour owed. What passes between people there tends to stay.
