Seek not greatness, but seek truth and you will find both.

— Horace Mann

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Aiming at stature directly tends to produce performance rather than substance, because reputation is downstream of something and cannot be manufactured at the source. Chasing what is actually so is a different activity: slower, less flattering, frequently inconvenient, and the only one that yields work worth remembering. Recognition, if it comes, arrives as a by-product. Pursued for its own sake it stays out of reach.

Notice whether your next piece of work is designed to be right or designed to be admired. The two look similar from outside and feel completely different to make. Choose the first and let the other look after itself.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Are you chasing recognition when honesty would serve you better?
