Make progress often enough that improvement becomes familiar.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

When improvement is rare, each instance feels like a big event and carries a lot of weight, which makes the gaps between them discouraging. When it happens often, even in small amounts, getting better becomes the ordinary state of things and you stop needing each session to prove something. Frequency changes your relationship to progress more than size does.

Aim for many small improvements rather than a few large ones. Practise more often for less time. The point is to make the experience of getting slightly better a familiar part of your week rather than an occasional triumph.
