The end of life is to be like God, and the soul following God will be like Him.

REFLECTION
Whatever you keep your eyes on across a long enough stretch, you slowly begin to resemble. The purpose of a life, on this view, is to follow God so closely that the soul takes on something of God’s likeness. Anyone can see a version of that pattern at work: a life aimed at something higher than appetite reshapes the person living it, while a life aimed at nothing in particular drifts toward whatever is nearest.
Try naming in plain words what your days are currently pointed at. Then ask whether the person that aim is making of you is someone you would want to know. If the answer sits badly, change the aim before you try to change the habits.
Who are you slowly coming to resemble by following them?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
