Goals are judged against your abilities, so acquiring a new one quietly changes what is sensible to aim at. Something that would have been unrealistic last year becomes a reasonable plan once you can do the thing that was blocking it. People often keep their goals fixed while their capabilities grow, and so end up aiming lower than they need to.
After learning something significant, revisit what you have ruled out. Ask what is now within reach that was not before. This is one of the few times it is worth deliberately raising your ambitions.
