Capital is reckless of the health or length of life of the laborer, unless under compulsion from society.

REFLECTION
Systems optimise for whatever they are measured on and stay indifferent to everything else. That is not a claim about villains; a structure rewarded purely for output has no internal way of noticing what it costs the people inside it. Restraint therefore has to come from outside, through law, organised pressure, or somebody with the standing to refuse. You can disagree about the remedy and still see the mechanism.
Ask what your team, your household or your own habits are optimising for, and what has become invisible because nothing counts it. Then put one explicit limit in place before the pressure arrives.
What has your work asked of your health without ever asking permission?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
