Good nature is worth more than knowledge, more than money, more than honor, to the persons who possess it.

— Henry Ward Beecher

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

An even temper is easy to undervalue, being invisible from outside and enormously valuable from inside. Going through the day generally warm rather than generally irritated changes every encounter and the amount of friction carried from one to the next. Knowledge and money are worth having, and neither improves the experience of being you nearly as much.

The encouraging part is that temperament responds to conditions. Sleep, food, load and company all move it, and so does the habit of assuming the best about strangers. If your nature has soured lately, look at the conditions before concluding anything about your character.
