Men are swayed more by fear than by reverence.

RESILIENCE
Threat moves people faster and further than admiration does, which is a fact about human machinery rather than a recommendation. Anyone trying to get something done can reach for it, and it works, and what it produces is compliance lasting exactly as long as the threat. Respect takes longer to build and keeps working when you are not in the room.
Watch what you are actually using when you need somebody to act. If what you are reaching for is a consequence, notice what that teaches them about you, and whether you would rather be obeyed or believed.
Which of your obligations are driven by fear rather than respect?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
