Prosperity is a great teacher adversity a greater.

— William Hazlitt

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Good conditions teach, mostly about what you do with room to move, and hard ones teach faster because they remove the option of not paying attention. Difficulty shows you who stays, what your reserves actually are, and which habits were only affordable while things were easy. None of that makes the hardship a gift, and the lesson is worth separating from any suggestion that the pain was arranged for your benefit.

If you are through a bad stretch, write down the two or three things it taught you before they fade. If you are still in one, that can wait.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which hard stretch taught you more than your best year did?
