Slow thought can produce fast correct action.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Taking a moment to think does not necessarily slow down the response. Very often it produces the correct action immediately, whereas acting without thinking produces a wrong action followed by a correction, which takes longer overall. The pause looks like delay and is frequently the faster route.

When you feel pressed to act instantly, ask whether ten seconds of thought would improve the choice. It usually would, and it usually costs less than the recovery from a poor one. Slow to decide and quick to execute is a good default.
