Calm separates the threat from the story about the threat.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

There is what is actually happening and there is the account your mind builds around it, and the second is usually larger, more personal, and more final than the first. The story explains what this means about you, where it leads, and who is to blame, none of which is contained in the event. Calm is what lets you tell them apart.

Write the bare facts in one place and the story in another. Deal with the facts. The story deserves attention too, and it is a different piece of work and rarely urgent.
