A loving heart is the beginning of all knowledge.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

You learn most about what you care for. Affection makes you patient enough to look a second time, to notice the details that indifference skips. Cold study gets you facts; caring gets you understanding, because it keeps you present long enough for the thing to reveal itself. The same is true of people, who show you almost nothing until they can tell you actually want to know.

Choose one person or one subject this week and pay attention to it the way you would to something you love. Ask a question you do not already know the answer to, and let the answer take its time.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What subject did you only understand after you cared about it?
