Every man desires to live long, but no man wishes to be old.

STILLNESS

STILLNESS
Wanting more years while wanting none of them to show is one wish split in two, and it cannot be granted. Length comes attached to the body carrying it. Much of the dread is less about slowness or a changed face than about being counted out while you are still here. That fear is reasonable, and nothing said about it turns age into a bargain.
What stays in your hands is what the added years are for. Name one thing you want the coming decade to hold, and put a piece of it into this month. The time arrives either way, and better to know what you want in it.
What about growing older do you quietly dread?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
