I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.

— John Burroughs

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Wanting more hours is not the same as being behind. A day can be too short because your appetite for it is large, and that is a better reason to run out of time than poor planning. The list of walks and books and people is not a backlog to clear. It is evidence that you are still interested in being alive.

Rather than trying to fit everything in, let the fullness stand. This week, pick one thing from the overflow and actually do it, and let the rest stay unfinished without apology.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which of your wants never fits into a single day?
