Nothing gives rest but the sincere search for truth.

— Blaise Pascal

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Restlessness often comes from holding a belief you half suspect is wrong. Keeping it propped up takes constant small effort: avoiding certain questions, steering conversations away, not looking too hard at what you already noticed. Wanting to know what is actually so, even when the answer costs you something, ends that low background work. The rest it brings is not the rest of having finished, but the rest of not defending anything.

Think of one belief you protect rather than examine. Ask what would have to be true for you to change your mind, then look honestly at whether it already is.
