Religion’s in the heart, not in the knees.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The visible forms of devotion are easy to perform and easy to mistake for the thing itself. You can hold the posture perfectly while nothing inside you has moved, and you can be entirely changed with nobody watching. What you actually care about shows in what you do when there is no observance to complete and no one to notice that you completed it.

Look at one practice you keep mostly out of habit and ask what it was originally for. Either put the meaning back into it or let it go without guilt. Then do one thing this week in the spirit of it that no one will see.
