The arrogance of age must submit to be taught by youth.

— Edmund Burke

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Experience earns you a great deal, and one of the things it quietly costs you is the willingness to be a beginner. Having been right before makes it harder to hear someone who has been alive for less time and seen the thing more recently. Younger people are not wiser, but they are standing somewhere you are not, and the view from there is real information. Refusing it protects your standing and narrows your world.

Find one person younger than you who knows something you do not, and ask them about it without framing it as a favor to them. Let the answer sit before you correct it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What has someone younger taught you that you resisted at first?
