The bird a nest, the spider a web, man friendship.

— William Blake

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A nest and a web are not decorations. They are what the creature has to build in order to live at all, and friendship sits in the same place for you. It is not the reward for a life already working; it is part of the structure that holds the life up. Left unbuilt, nothing falls down all at once, which is why it is easy to postpone.

Pick one person you have been meaning to contact and contact them this week, without an occasion. Building is ordinary work, done in small pieces, repeated.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What are you actually building with the people you call friends?
