The way to know life is to love many things.

Understanding does not come from standing back from things; it comes from caring about them. Each thing you love teaches you something you could not have reasoned your way to, because affection makes you patient enough to look closely. Someone who loves only one or two things knows those well and little else. Widening what you care about is how the world gets larger.

Let something new in this week, even briefly. A kind of music you have ignored, a craft, a stretch of street you never walk down. You are not looking for a new passion, only for one more thing you find you would defend.
