There was never a good war, or a bad peace.

— Benjamin Franklin

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Whatever a war is said to be for, the cost of it lands on people who did not choose it, and no outcome ever quite pays that back. Peace can be dull, unfair, hard to love, and it is still the ground on which everything else can be repaired. The comparison is not between ideal peace and glorious victory; it is between living people and the arguments made over them.

Where you have your own small conflicts, count what continuing one actually costs you. An imperfect settlement you can live with usually beats a win that leaves nothing standing.
