This is the highest wisdom that I own; freedom and life are earned by those alone who conquer them each day anew.

— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Freedom is not a possession you acquire once and then own. It behaves more like a practice: the choices that made you free yesterday have to be made again today, or the ground quietly goes back to whoever wants it more. The same is true of a life that feels like yours. Nothing about it is settled by a single decision, however large that decision felt at the time.

Ask what you are currently living on the strength of a choice you made years ago and have not renewed. Do the small version of it again this week, in the present.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What must you win back again every single morning?
