When we are in love we seem to ourselves quite different from what we were before.

— Blaise Pascal

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being in love changes not just how you see another person but who you appear to be in your own eyes. Suddenly you are generous, patient, capable of things that seemed out of reach a month ago. Part of that is real, a self that was always available and needed a reason to come out. Part of it is borrowed, held up by the other person’s attention, and it can sag when the attention shifts.

Pay attention to which qualities you like in yourself right now. Try practicing one of them somewhere the person is not, so it belongs to you either way.
