One more try costs a few minutes. Giving up costs the whole ending.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The two options carry wildly different price tags and feel the same in the moment, which is the trap. Another attempt costs a small, known amount of time. Stopping costs everything that was going to happen after, which you cannot see and therefore do not count. Tiredness makes the small cost feel enormous and the large one feel like relief.

When you are about to quit something, set a timer for ten more minutes and work inside it. If it still feels impossible when the timer ends, stop for today rather than for good.
